Do we have a lot of time in Uganda or are we just patient people?!

I have been called impatient, tagged a bad driver – this is because I always drive like I am being chased! Every time I stand in a queue, literally a part of me dies! Speed means everything to me. Whether it’s driving or or the internet connection, I always want everything to be fast.

For this particular reason, I hate shopping in malls, the time it takes in traffic jam, the hustle to get parking, the long queues at the till – I hate shopping in Shoprite because of this. Over 20 tills but only 4 work, what nonsense is that?

Over time this got me to appreciate online shopping more – I still have my issues with this too, the waiting for the products to be delivered.

What I find very fascinating though, is that fact that some Ugandans still prefer to spend countless hours in traffic, moving from Mall to Mall looking for items that they can easily find online, from the comfort of their homes or offices. Why do they do this? Do they have that much time or are they not comfortable with shopping online?

I know we do not have that many online stores in Uganda but we have online market places like Kaymu – every time I get on this platform, I can’t help but think about Meka and drop a quick tear!
Back to the online market places, these platforms bring together a huge number of sellers with all sorts of items, and all a buyer needs to do is make an order without worrying about what mall or shop the seller is located. What is interesting though, is that most of these sellers are downtown malls’ sellers who actually sell items at fair prices compared to the uptown shops.

Question is, why aren’t Ugandan’s taking advantage of this?

Have you made a purchase online lately and what was your experience?! Share in the comments, lets see what could be wrong with the e-commerce platforms in Uganda.

While you at it, Kaymu has an amazing discounts campaign tagged #KaymuSanta that is happening until Wednesday this week, do not miss to take advantage of it, it could be your first purchase online and your introduction to online purchases.
