Simple Solutions To Complex Problems

Don’t fight the problem, decide it.
– George C. Marshal

For the last three days (that is until last night) I had no water at the house.  You can imagine all the issues that come with no water; dirty dishes, dirty house, dirty laundry ..  I had to be nice to my neighbors to give me some water. – We hardly ever chat with the neighbors, I am not sure why – everyone is concerned with their own lives! Hmmm.. will get into this another day.

Anyways, last night after getting in the house and finding there was no water- yet, I was really pissed off. I was blaming National Water and Sewage Corporation for the disappearance.

To calm down, I sat out at the verandah and looked at the  stars filled skies filled – this always gets me relaxed. While in that relaxed state, it hit me.. May be my no water problem wasn’t as complex as it looked. I thought back.. Everyone in the neighborhood has water apart from our house, no plumbing has been done recently, then how come it was only us without water?

I decided to go and check at the meter. Turns out, someone – may the gods punish him/her for only one day, had closed our tap!

What I got to me to write this blog is the fact;

  • that it took me/us three days of no water to figure out that the tap was closed.
  • that the NWSC technician came over at the house and said the issue was with the house plumbing. He too did not take a look at the closed tap
  • that the care taker who knows where all the meters are, the taps to all the houses and knows the water levels in all the tanks, spent the three days getting noise from us and he couldn’t figure out that it was the closed tap.

Such a simple solution to something that made our 3 days bad!

Point here;

Whatever challenge/problem you have, always take a step back and take another look at it. The solution could be right in front of you and you are just not seeing it.
