Top 20 Ugandan Websites in Uganda – January 2017

It is interesting what Ugandan* websites get the highest traffic in Uganda. Betting companies and news sites make up the majority.

Here is the list of the top 20 as of January 30th 2017. Please note that Alexa, which makes it measurements depending on the traffic in the last 3 months, provides these statistics. It is interesting to note how the traffic of different websites changes over time.

I have put up a table comparing position now and position around this same time last year for the top 20. The biggest drop is BigEye, which dropped from 2nd Place to 16th. Makerere University made the biggest climb from 20th to 5th position – this could have been majorly to the closing of the university in November and reopening early this month.

The websites that took a major hit are Hipipo that dropped from 16th to 70th Position, The Investigator from 13th to 62nd position and PC Tech Magazine from 7th to 45th. It appears Ugandans are starting to appreciate online shopping, one of the latest e-commerce website Kilimall comes in at 8th position with Jumia dropping one position to 11th. OLX is also a new entrant in the top 20 which is a classified platform majorly that was only accessible through the mobile app. I guess they realized that they were missing out on a lot of traffic by removing web access.

In Television, Bukedde leads the pack (taking of advantage of its print and radio) at 20th position, followed by NTV at 36th and NBS at 68th position.
